evaluating the options

Although I have known about the pending news of my boss’ resignation for a couple of weeks, it has still hit me hard.

I’m her Executive Assistant and have been for the past 2 1/2 years. We’ve worked closely on a multitude of projects and day to day challenges in the office. I know all her passwords, I spend more time in her inbox than she does, I book flights for the kids, manage her diary, update her LinkedIn, get coffee, proofread documents, draft correspondence, and talk to her Chairman. And that’s all before lunch time.

But in less than four weeks it is going to come to a shuddering halt. The powers that be have started thinking about how they will replace her, but in the meantime I have to start thinking about me.

Do I stay and support the “new guy” or do I start the trusty pro’s and con’s list to help me make my decision? Right now, it could go either way. But as one of my Board directors told me today – “just don’t make any hasty decisions”.
