In a world that seems to be full of unnecessary death and violence, it’s time to stop and count my blessings.
I’m grateful I have a roof over my head to keep the rain away.
I’m grateful I have a well paid job and that I enjoy what I do.
I’m grateful I have many good friends who always watch out for each other.
I’m grateful I have a pantry full of food and the means to buy fresh fruit and vegetables whenever I want.
I’m grateful I have the means to give Christmas presents and see that a little thoughtfulness can make someone smile.
I’m grateful I am healthy in mind, body and spirit.
I’m grateful I have quiet, friendly neighbours.
I’m grateful I do not want for anything.
I’m grateful I have family nearby who always make me feel welcome.
And I’m grateful the magic of Christmas can put a smile on any face.

I wish there were visiting hours in heaven
It is probably my imagination but there seems to be more Mothers Day advertising than ever before. Everywhere I turn, someone is pushing some “ideal gift” or “show her how much you care” gift. It is all feeling a bit blah.
It’s silly the things that set me off. Take the other night as an example – me reduced to tears all because of the gardening show on tv planting daffodil bulbs – Mum’s garden always had a lovely show each spring. But all I can do is breathe deep, paste a smile on my face and try not to look too envious when my friends tell me of their plans for Mothers Day.
But I count my blessings. I have two surrogate Mum’s who keep an eye on me and offer up words of wisdom whenever I need to hear it and often when I don’t. What more can a girl ask for.

My Dad says the nicest things and today’s phone call earlier only reinforces that shifting here to Brisbane was a good move. I had a wisdom tooth extracted yesterday along with some heavy duty fix up work on a nearby tooth. Dad had kindly offered to pick me up and deliver me home for which I was very thankful (I was a tad wobbly afterwards).
But what was even nicer was the phone call I got earlier, checking in to make sure I was okay and following the dentist’s instructions. I thanked him again for bringing me home and he replied
“that’s okay dear, I feel really valued when I can do something that helps out one of my girls – not just you but K and J as well”
