Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh

No matter what side of the royal fence you sit on, most will concede Prince Philip has lived an amazing life.

He recently turned 90, and has been given the title Lord Admiral of the Navy — yet more acknowledgment of his contributions to the many organisations and charities he supports. However, what is more impressive is his marriage of 62 years.

It was said ‘behind every man is a good woman” but in this case the reverse holds true. While the cameras have always focussed on his wife, Prince Philip has remained at the Queen’s side for nearly 63 years providing counsel, wit, and a steadying arm to lean on. And for me it illustrates the true essence of partnership.

The Queen summed it up beautifully at their golden jubilee celebration when she said “He is someone who doesn’t take easily to compliments. He has, quite simply, been my strength and stay all these years, and I, and his whole family, and this and many other countries, owe him a debt greater than he would ever claim or we shall ever know.”
