It’s much more appealing than the dreary old black pyramid scattered with pictures of tiny food unrecognisable to the naked eye. Hopefully the New Zealand authorities will release something similar here. It is just so simple, bright and colourful. The concept could easily be learnt by all ages, even young ones who can not yet read. Also, according to the USDA website the revised guidelines are suitable for 2 years + but “those that require dietary modifications due to specific disorders should consult a registered dietician.”
And we certainly need it. The World Health Organisations population statistics for obesity put New Zealand at 7th in the world with 62.7 per cent. And just for comparison, the US is only slightly ahead in 3rd place with 66.7 per cent.
